Accident victim's organs save three lives in MIMS, Calicut

         In an exemplary act, the relatives of a patient who was declared brain dead at the Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) Calicut,donated his organs, giving three people new lives. The patient, Mr. Surendran V.P (59), a resident of Valiyaparambil House, Calicut, was declared brain death at MIMS on 3rd May, 6:30 PM. He was admitted at MIMS on 2nd May 7:00 PM.
         His son Mr. Manoj V.P informed us willingness to donate all his organs after which one liver, two kidneys and two eyes were donated to different patients. Surendrans Liver was donated to a 60 year old male from Thalassery, who was a chronic liver patient at MIMS a MIMS since last two yeras.
        Eyes were donated to a patient at a medical college, Calicut while the eyes were donated to two different patients from Comtrust hospital, Calicut.
      A motorbike hit Mr. Surendran from backside while he was crossing road to the temple near his house at 6.45 PM on 17th September. He got a bad injury to his head and was taken to Calicut Medical College and later shifted to MIMS at 9 PM for advanced care. Mr. Surendrans brain death was declared at MIMS on 18th September, 6 PM. The Liver Transplant Surgery started at 10.15 PM, 18th September and completed at 11.40 AM on 19th September.
      Mr. Surendran was a running a restaurant in Chevayoor and he actively involved in many social organizations. He was holding the positions of Joint Secretary of NSS, Chevayoor Unit and the president of VVES, Chevayoor.
      Mrs. Indira Surendran is a housewife. He has two children; Daughter Manjusha (32) married, working as Teacher and Son V.P Manoj (30) working in a finance company in Calicut.

The body was buried at 3PM at House premises.
Liver Transplant Surgeons Dr. Sajeesh Sahadevan, Dr. Rajesh Nambiar and Dr. Rohit Raveendran alongwith Assistant surgeons Dr. Seethalakshmy and Dr. Gokul conducted the transplant surgery. The Anaesthesia was done by Dr. Kishore K. Dr. Rekha S and Dr. Preetha Chandran.
