Beyond the boundaries, free heart surgery in India has been successfully done at MIMS Kozhikode to a 16 years old Afgan
girl, who was suffering from chronic cardiac disease. The very complex and rare
cardiac surgery called Intra cardiac Repair has been done to the poor Afgan
girl Ms.Rubeena at ‘MIMS Childrens’ Heart Centre’, Calicut as a part of
‘Healing Touch’, a global programme led by Dr. Moopen’s Foundation. Poor
children, suffering from heart disease are taken care of by the ‘Healing Touch’
in which surgeons from MIMS Calicut and Aster Medcity, Kochi are contributing
their medical expertise.
Here humanity and compassion
dissolves the boundaries of country and language that brought the poor little
girl Ms. Rubeena back to life. People from different walks of life visited the
hospital to share the joy and relief of Ms. Rubeena and her family. Mr. MK
Raghavan MP from Kozhikode, visited Ms. Rubeena to confer regards and prayers
on behalf of the people of India. He said, ‘ by surpassing all other hurdles,
now we are able to provide the best medical facilities to the marginalized
people of our country and other countries alike, and we can say these kinds of
good deeds are a part of the best diplomacy too. It is very happy and
proud that Padmasree Dr. Azad Moopen leads and accomplishes these kinds of
endeavours.
Ms. Rubeena from Nangarhar Village
in Afghanisthan, was a heart patient by birth. Surgery was the only hope.
Ms.Rubeena, is the third among the ten of her parents. Her disease and the poor
financial background of the family put the parents in a dilemma. At this
situation, the soothing presence of ‘Healing Touch’ was a sudden relief and
bliss. The Surgery was done by Paediatric Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Benedict Raj and
Dr. Gopinath with the support of Paediatric Cardiologists Dr. Renu P Kurup, Dr.
Remadevi and Anaesthetists Dr. Sujatha P. Ad Dr. Mohan Das B. S.
Dr. Moopen’s Foundation, is the
service wing of Aster DM Health Care, the world renowned medical service and
Padmasree Dr. Azad Moopen is its charioteer. He had a friendly discussion with
the Afghanistan President Mr. Hameed Karzai in December 2013. By this
discussion, Dr. Azad Moopen decided to spread the wings of ‘Healing Touch’ to
the sky of Afghanistan too. As a primary step, it has been decided to select 25
poor children and their surgery to be done at MIMS Calicut and Aster Medcity,
Kochi, free of cost. For the screening, a special team consists of cardiac Surgeons from MIMS and Aster Med City went to Afghanistan. The first among the
selected children was Master Suhail whose surgery was successfully completed on
21st April, 2014.
Words of emotion and gratitude from
Sayyed Rahman, father of Ms. Rubeena: ‘My daughter had been suffering for the
last several years, but I couldn’t provide her a better treatment due to my
poor financial condition, if this opportunity never came we could have only
wait for the fate. No words can express our sincere gratitude to Dr.Moopen’sFoundation’.
A DM Foundation delegation
consisting of Senior Consultant doctors and officials visited Kabul in the
month of January 2014 to initiate the screening process and identify the
beneficiaries of the ‘Healing Touch’ initiative in Afghanistan. Dr. Hashmatulla
Nawabi, Paediatric Cardiac Surgery, Ministry of Health – Afghanistan, Dr.
Asmatulla Naebkhil- Director & Vice President of Kabul Medical University
& Heart Institute and Mr. Mansoor Ahmadi (Business Man) who sponsored
logistics and HE Atiqullah Atifmall, the Consul General of Republic of
Afghanistan extended support to this initiative and ensured smooth functioning
of the initiative.
