Mrs. Anitha gives life to five - Organs donated to Patients at MIMS and Medical College, Calicut

The relatives of Mrs. Anitha (39) who was declared brain dead following a brain injury after an accident have set another example donating her organs to five other people. Mrs. Anitha, from Pullamkottu thazham (H), Mavinchod, Kuruvangad P.O, Koyilandy, was brain dead at Calicut Medical College on Wednesday at 1.00 AM.

Two kidneys, two eyes and liver donated to patients at Medical College and MIMS Hospital, Calicut. Her husband Mr. Vinod and relatives signed the willingness to donate all her organs.

 One Kidney transplanted to a patient at Medical College, and other kidney and the liver transplanted to patients at MIMS. Both eyes donated to the eye bank of the college.

The Liver was transplanted to a 38 year old male from Palakkad in MIMS Hospital. He was under treatment of Dr. Anishkumar, Gastroenterology department at MIMS. The surgery was conducted by the liver transplant surgeons Dr. Sajeesh Sahadevan, Dr. Rajesh Nambiar, Dr. Rohit Ravindran and Dr. Seethalakshmy with the support of Anaesthetist Dr. Kishore K.

One kidney was transplanted to a 34 yr old female from Vadakara. She was under dialysis for last four years at MIMS. The kidney Transplant Surgery at MIMS was conducted by Urologists Dr. Harigovind P. Dr. Krishnamohan R and Dr Abhay Anand, Anaesthetists Dr. Rekha S, Nephrologists Dr. Sajith Narayanan, Dr.Feroz Aziz, Dr. Ismail NA and Dr. Benil Hafeeque.

Mrs. Anitha, wife of Mr. Vinod was walking on the road when a bike hit her on 11th of this month. She was returning from Ration shop at Mavinchottil, Kuruvangad to home after buying rice. She was taken to a nearby hospital due to head injury and later was taken to medical college.

Anitha has two daughters: Adishna (11) and Adishma (6)
